Internship Opportunities at UN for Pakistani's

The Pakistan Mission to the United Nations in New York represents Pakistan at the United Nations Headquarters and its various agencies located in New York. The work is rigorous and diverse, requiring flexibility and long working hours.

Interns are involved in supporting the work of an officer and are guided by the officers in advancing Pakistan’s interests at the United Nations. An intern will need to develop a solid understanding of the positions and policies of the Government of Pakistan in the areas they are assigned to. As an intern, you may be required to cover various briefings at the UN Headquarters and to assist the concerned officer in conducting some background research on different issues. Note taking and reporting to the officers is one of the regular tasks that an intern performs at the Mission.
The internship program is a year round rolling recruitment process. Most interns come into the Mission while continuing their university studies. Eligible candidates can join in at any given month including the summer vacations.
We are particularly interested in candidates with academic qualifications in disciplines relating specifically to the international relations, political science, human rights and legal issues.

Eligibility:
The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students at US colleges and universities. We cannot accept applications from outside of the United States.
We are looking for individuals with the following background:-
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Leadership abilities.
  • Maturity and ability to work independently.
  • An interest in pursuing a career in international affairs and organizations, diplomacy, politics.
  • Prior exposure to, or demonstrated knowledge of, the United Nations system would be an additional feature of your resume.
  • Knowledge of URDU language would be preferred.
Internship positions are best suited for applicants with interest in the following fields:
  • UN and International Public Law
  • Pakistani/South Asian politics
  • Journalism/Media
  • International Affairs
  • Economics
  • International Economic Law
  • Human Rights
  • International Trade

(Students are encouraged to apply for academic credits from their Universities for the internship programme with the Mission).
Location:
Interns are normally attached with the Pakistan Mission to the UN in New York City. Candidates must therefore be willing to re-locate to New York for a period of intended stay at the Mission, on a self-financed basis.
